Sunset in the Maine Woods

I took this photo in the woods behind my neighbors house around sunset a couple of nights ago. I didn’t want to take the traditional sunset shot so I looked for something a little different.  I love the contrast between the bright yellow light of the setting sun and the dark green and brown tones of the woods.

Art Photo

Surprisingly I did not have to use a lot  of effects to create this photo. I accidentally inverted the colors of the original and loved the way it turned out. Then on a whim I decided to see what would happen if I rotated the original to be opposite the new photo by creating a different layer. I really liked the effect. From there it was just a few more tweaks to the color levels and I was done, with a photo that is certainly eye catching. This was the original shot.

Portraits Assignment

For my portrait assignment I chose to photograph my boyfriend Luke, as he came to visit me for my birthday. He was reluctant to be photographed so I tried to use that in the shot and instead of going for cheery or sunny shot I went with something a little more sullen. I think the choice to go with black and white was a good one and I loved the way the shadows from the draped background added to the shot. The shot below is a second portrait I took while experimenting with my new camera. I thought the contrast between the dark of his short and the light of the backdrop made for an appealing shot.

To Roma and Beyond!

This is a pretty little flower that had nestled itself in a grassy spot outside my first hotel in Greece. It proved to photogenic to pass up.
This is one of my favorite photos form my trip. I love the blue sky background I was so happy that the sun came out for a few hours to allow this shot.
This last one was also a favorite shot from the trip. I was so happy that the dark sky behind helped to create the impressive tone that this shot of the architecture in St. Peters square deserves.

Vacation in Greece

I took this photo while at the Ocious Lucas monastery around the Delphi area of Greece. The early Byzantine era architecture captured my imagination and I loved the contrast between the close of the building and the distance of the mountain side behind. I think this photo shows nice balance with the 50-50 close to far composition. One of my favorite aspects of this photo is the color scheme. The warm earthy tones captured the homey atmosphere that radiated form this location. I love the varying textures that this photo presents I think that the subject really made the picture!

Lonely Spring Flower

While waiting for a ride the last day before spring break I chose to photograph this pretty little flower that gave me hope warmer weather will be coming soon.

Experimenting with lighting

This photo was shot in the T.V. studio at my school. It was fun to be able to play with the light source and angle. Thanks to my unsuspecting hand model whose casual hand rest gave the inspiration for a very interesting photograph.

My Favorite Toy!

I chose to photograph a favorite pair of my shoes. I love shoes and the collection of different types is a hobby of mine.  I also liked the idea of taking a macro shot because I think it brings out the details of the subject that wouldn’t usually draw focus. I shot this with my simple digital camera. I set it out on a sheet in my hall then shut of all the lights and used an led light from my phone as a light source. I chose not to use a flash because I wanted the photo to have a darker feel that reflected the personality of the shoe. I chose to shoot in black and white for the same reason. I uploaded the photo to my iphoto and made only a few basic tweaks. As a whole I am very pleased with the result I think I successfully captured the essence of the shoe.
